Willow Smith turned 10 years old on Sunday and celebrated the occasion by appearing on Ellen. After being humorously handed a neck brace by the host, in order to ensure a lack of injury when she moved her head around on stage, Willow performed a snippet of Rihanna's "Only Girl" before launching into an incredible, mature version of "Whip My Hair." Is she the next Michael Jackson, as Jay-Z stupidly dubbed her a few weeks ago? No. But is she impressive for such a young singer? Oh yes... Prior to the above performance, Smith also chatted with Ellen for a few minutes. Watch that interview below. By James Dinh Britney Spears Photo: Jeremy Cowart/ WireImage While "Glee" was spot-on in its tribute to Britney Spears in September, it's safe to say her fans are ready for the real deal. The pop princess, who has remained relatively low-key since wrapping up her Circus Tour, is currently working on her new album with a few familiar faces, including producers Dr. Luke and Max Martin. "She's such an icon, I don't want to let anyone down," Dr. Luke said last week at the Hollywood Reporter/ Billboard Film & TV Music Conference. "But most importantly, I want to make good music." Luke said that he is anticipating that Britney's album will see an early 2011 release, and a source told THR it would hit stores before March 31. In addition to Dr. Luke ("Circus") and Martin ("... Baby One More Time"), Darkchild and newcomer Billboard are also said to be working with Spears. When asked if there were anything else he could reveal about the heavily guarded project, Luke wouldn't say much. "Just that I'm excited to be co-executive producing with Max Martin, the person who kind of invented Britney, and to make good music," he said. "And she's such an amazing vehicle to getting that music out to a lot of people in every country." With Luke and Martin helming the project, fans may expect to hear Spears sounding like the producers' frequent collaborators Katy Perry and Ke$ha. But there have also been indications that Brit will take a fresher approach. Last month, Spears' manager Adam Leber spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her next album, promising that it will introduce a "progressive" sound from the pop star. ''It'll be a departure from what you've heard,'' he added. What producers would you like to see Britney team up with? Sound off below! By Jocelyn Vena Beyoncé Photo: Rob Loud/ Getty Images Back in March, rumors that Beyoncé was pregnant were quickly shot down by the singer's rep. Now, seven months later, the same rumors are back. On Wednesday (October 20), UsMagazine.com reported that unnamed sources say B and her rap mogul husband, Jay-Z, are expecting a bundle of joy. "B was shocked," one source reportedly told the site. "She loves kids, but she wasn't ready to be a mother just yet. She really wanted to get her album done and tour the world again." Another source added, "This is a gift from God and she's so happy." Although nothing is confirmed from Beyoncé or Jay-Z, it's being reported that the singer is in her first trimester. The pair has always kept their private life private, but Beyoncé has been open to talking about motherhood. Earlier this year, she spoke to Allure magazine about the prospect of being a mother. "I definitely want to have a child, but I know from my nephew it's a lot. I hope that those things will just happen naturally. I still haven't had time to relax," she said. The pair married in April 2008 and that same year Beyoncé told "Access Hollywood" there was a loose timeline of when she might want to have children. She explained, "The kids, I don't know ... in three years, maybe. It's a lot of work." Regardless of whether or not she is pregnant, fans have been gearing up for a different kind of new arrival from B. Late last month, many speculated that Beyoncé would soon release a new single after producer Los Da Mystro — a frequent collaborator of The-Dream, who worked with Tricky Stewart on "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" — tweeted that he was listening to a new track that was going to be released in three weeks. That was in late September. No new music has been released yet. By Gil Kaufman Photo: John Lund/ Getty Images There's no escaping it: The economy is the issue in Tuesday's (November 2) midterm elections. Thanks to stubborn, nearly double-digit unemployment, a foreclosure crisis and the near total meltdown of the U.S. economy, almost all Americans have been touched by the Great Recession in some way. And based on early predictions, they're going to take their frustrations out on the party in power, as Democrats are expected to suffer big losses in Congress and in governor's mansions across the country. "The Democrats are probably going to suffer in these midterm elections, because the economy hasn't gone well and we haven't turned things around; it's been a slow process," said Democrat Corey Johnson, 28, who works as the director of government affairs for a financial firm after putting in time as a Barack Obama delegate in 2008 and on a number of campaigns for local and state government in New York. "People have said that the Republican Party has become the party of 'no,' and I'm not sure what the solution is or what they've proposed to try to fix things in a big way," he said, expressing fear that the talk of change has not been accompanied by many specifics on how the GOP will run Washington differently. For their part, many members of the Republican Party seeking to oust Democratic rivals have vowed to roll back many of the costly reforms put in place by the Obama administration since 2009 in an effort to ward off a complete financial collapse. In their place, they have promised to implement more tax cuts to spur the economy and a greater emphasis on reducing the country's ballooning deficit. "The sweeping reforms that have been put in place by this administration ... at least for now has made it harder to hire people," countered Republican Brian Morgenstern, 28, a consultant on a number of GOP campaigns in New York and a former staffer for John McCain during his 2008 presidential bid. He said young voters and teens are going to eventually have to pay for the massive spending programs of this administration and the previous Bush White House. "They have borrowed recklessly; they have spent trillions of dollars. ... Who's going to have to pay those down? People who are teenagers now who are going to be getting jobs over the next several years and entering the workforce." And while young voters were a key factor in President Obama's victory in 2008, Costas Panagopoulos, a political-science professor at Fordham University and executive editor of Campaigns & Elections magazine, said they may not be as eager to come out on Tuesday because of the continuing bad news about the economy. "Young people were a very crucial part of the Democratic coalition in 2008 that got Obama and many Democrats elected," Panagopoulos said. "The one question they have to keep in mind is: Do they want to keep that legislative program alive? If so, that's one reason to show up and vote. ... When we have an economy like this, it eclipses all other issues, so it's not that social issues are not important, but relative to the economy, they are taking a backseat in 2010." Johnson said he's mostly afraid that if Republicans take over, they will push through policies that benefit the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the struggling working and middle-class families. "I'll preface this by saying I don't think either party has been great on this issue," Morgenstern said. "My biggest fear is that if the Democrats keep Congress, they will add more inefficiencies into the economy." Is the economy the top issue on your mind when you vote today? By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson in "Thriller" Photo: Epic Records Just in time for Halloween comes a report that former Michael Jackson choreographer Kenny Ortega is in talks to direct a big-screen version of "Thriller," the late pop star's groundbreaking music video. According to a report on Deadline Hollywood, GK Films, the production company from Academy Award-winning producer Graham King ("The Tourist," "The Rum Diary"), is in "active" negotiations to put together a deal to bring the landmark 1983 mini-movie to the big screen. "This Is It" and "High School Musical" director Ortega is attached to direct the $50 million project with a script from "The Hangover" screenwriter Jeremy Garelick. The project hinges on an OK from the Jackson estate, and a spokesperson for the estate said no confirmation was currently available on the project; representatives for Garelick, Ortega and GK had not returned requests for comment at press time. The original 14-minute clip was directed by veteran filmmaker John Landis ("Trading Places," "The Blues Brothers"), who is currently involved in a royalties dispute with the Jackson estate over proceeds from the best-selling video of all time. "Thriller" set a new high-water mark for the art of video-making at the time and is still widely considered to be among the greatest efforts ever in the medium, one that continues to influence generations of artists. The latest to take a swing at "Thriller" is Kanye West, who has said his 35-minute art film "Runaway" drew inspiration from the video, including a nod to MJ in a scene featuring a giant papier-mâché likeness of the King of Pop. No details were available about the plot, but Deadline reported that it might follow the ghouly song's "folklore" and possibly include a story line involving the late narrator of the song, film actor Vincent Price, and the town in which he grew up. As noted on MTV's Movies Blog, a "Thriller" movie helmed by Ortega wouldn't be entirely surprising. Though Ortega has roots in music-based projects and is best known as a choreographer ("Dirty Dancing," "Newsies"), his directing credits include the Halloween-themed 1993 witch tale "Hocus Pocus," starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and a young Thora Birch. By James Dinh Beyoncé Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ WireImage Jay-Z may be Beyoncé's husband, but the hip-hop heavyweight will not be managing the pop star anytime soon. According to a statement posted by the singer's management website, Music World Entertainment, Beyoncé's father, Mathew Knowles is not being replaced by Jay-Z or anyone else as her manager. "Contrary to false rumors online, Beyoncé and her manager Mathew Knowles unequivocally have had and continue to have a close personal and business relationship. Mathew Knowles is the sole and exclusive manager of Beyoncé," the statement reads. Mathew Knowles has always played an important part in his daughter's career, dating all the way back to her days in Destiny's Child. When the group split in 2005, Mathew continued managing Beyoncé as well as Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. But Rowland and Williams recently parted ways with Knowles and his Music World Entertainment team. Earlier this year, he also denied claims that the trio were in talks to reunite Destiny's Child. In addition to refuting the online rumors, the management company confirmed that the singer is working on upcoming music projects. "Furthermore, Beyoncé is readying the release of her new, highly anticipated DVD and has started the recording process for her new album," the statement concluded. One producer that the singer may be reuniting with for her next record is Ne-Yo. The pair previously worked together on her hit single "Irreplaceable" back in 2006. Just last week, the soon-to-be father tweeted, "Mornin' NY!!! Studio with Mary J Blige last night, Beyonce tonight. I LOVE MY JOB!!! Shout out Jerry Wonder!!" Thomas Usher performs at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Call it what you will: talent, swag, skills. But one thing's true about Usher Terry Raymond IV: When he steps on the dance floor, some mysterious thing comes out of him and puts the G in groove. After he was tapped to perform at the 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards, executive producer Dave Sirulnick challenged Usher to "show why you're king," and the 31-year-old Grammy winner didn't disappoint. As predicted by the lucky few who got a peek at Thursday's practice performance for his hit "OMG," Ush pulled off moves that would make the late great Michael Jackson jealous in a mammoth stage production that included more special-effects bells and whistles than a summer blockbuster. Usher opened the performance with "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," perched two flights above the stage on a ledge surrounded by blinding green laser lights. Then he slid, with the help of barely visible wires and mounts, down a flight, all the while popping and locking. When the father of two finally ticked his way down to stage level, he was surrounded by an army of dancers also clad in black suits with white stripes designed to toss and catch special effect lights. Directed by Anthony Mandler, Usher's "OMG" clip earned Best Male Video, Best Dance Music Video and Best Choreography Moonman nominations. During the pre-show, Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" beat it in the Best Dance category, where Raymond was, for many, the lead contender. If Usher was disappointed, he didn't let it show. When he launched the "OMG" portion of his performance, the stage seemed to disappear, as red laser lights moved forward in blinding configurations spelling out O.M.G. and Usher's name. More dancers lowered from the ceiling on Cirque du Soleil-esque contraptions, dipping in and out of the red beams. Such a 3-D light display could probably have been seen from the moon, if it weren't for the roof of the Nokia Theatre. Usher ended his set standing, head back, with his arms outstretched in the Jesus pose. He didn't say a word. Didn't need to.
